Efficiency & Availability
The main goal of the producer and provider of packaging machines and units should be the increase and stabilisation of effectiveness. This increase is commonly determined by the specific packaging process costs on the one hand and, on the other hand, by the effective output produced.
In addition to the determination of technical characteristics (e.g. availability), economic considerations should also be subject to such analyses. The goal, however, should be to detect weak points which will subsequently be avoided by modifications in the technical/organisational processes.
These considerations should also include non-productive times, so-called “planable“ standstill times. The milk processing companies are a case in point. Here studies have shown that about 15% of the machine working time are needed for cleaning processes. Thus, increasingly more importance is attached to the reduction of cleaning times – be it through Hygienic Design or alternative material surfaces. This development is also reflected in current research needs.
